Education, Support & Mentoring

Literacy – This relatively new committee formed in 2014, is now charged with exploring opportunities, recommending options, and coordinating the implementation of approved literacy initiatives. Our volunteers collaborate with the New Hanover County Library assisting with literacy initiatives and activities. Our members volunteer as reading coaches to our local elementary schools and the National Center for Outdoor Education and Adventure. We coordinate efforts for specific projects for Pleasure Island, including the Story WalkTM in 2014, and today for the Little Free Libraries (LFL) project. For more information on the duties of the LFL committee, please see the governing document in the Club documents pull down in the Member area of the website.
Contact Mary Nolan (mnoln@hotmail.com) or Mary Anne Russo (maryanne.russo@gmail.com) for more information.

Local School/Student Support – Our volunteers work closely with the counselors at our local schools to support students in need. We collect school supplies and food products at our monthly meetings, respond to specific requests from school counselors to provide supplies and/or needed clothing for students. {Contact Committee Chair button}
